The Book Diary

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Thirteen Reasons Why - Jay Asher

I have seen this book many times before but I never read it and I don't know why. It's one of the best books I've read in a while. The last book that made me feel the way this book made me feel was Candy by Kevin Brooks.

So, if you don't know what this is about it's about a girl that committed suicide and she made a list of the thirteen things she thinks made her decide to give up on life. (I don't want to give too much away so I'm being a little vague and only disclosing small details and not any major details in the book) Anyway, after she commits suicide these reasons circle around to the people involved in her life that in a way caused her to give up.

I really enjoyed the way this was written. You get to experience all of this at the same time as one of the people involved in this and you get the same feeling of anticipation that he does. It's intense especially since you know what he's feeling throughout the whole time and you start to see things differently as he does... it's just... I think I need to read a sappy love story after this or something lol.

It's definitely not the darkest book I've ever read, but I think suicide is still a hard topic to read about... because ya know it's suicide and it's sad. Anyway, I give this five stars and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It just makes you see how sometimes things that appear insignificant can actually have a huge impact on at least one person. I feel like this is a must read for everyone.

So, while this is kind of sad I wouldn't exactly say everyone will cry during this. However there are a few parts where crying is mentioned so if you're like me and that kind of stuff makes you cry then you might cry, but it's not too bad. If you decide to read this I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and happy reading!
